The GOAT is a prescription beard treatment. Minoxidil, the same active used for scalp hair loss, is applied to the skin under the beard to encourage dormant follicles into their growth phase and thicken the hairs already there. The alcohol-free base means it can be used on the face without drying it out.

It's for men aged 18 to 65 with patchy, sparse or slow beard growth on healthy skin. A prescriber reviews your answers first, because minoxidil isn't suitable for everyone — in particular, some heart conditions and some skin conditions rule it out.

The active

  • Minoxidil 5%. Applied to the skin to prolong the follicle's growth phase and encourage thicker, longer beard hair.

Hair grows slowly, so this is the shape of a typical course rather than a promise. Everyone responds differently, and your prescriber sets the pace.

  1. Weeks 1–4

    Settling in

    One or two pumps worked into the skin, morning and evening. Little to see yet; the skin may feel dry or itchy while it adjusts.

  2. Weeks 8–12

    First new growth

    Fine, lighter hairs appear in the patchy areas — the first sign the follicles are responding.

  3. Months 4–6

    Fills in and darkens

    New hairs thicken and darken, and the gaps close. Your prescriber checks in on progress.

  4. Month 6 and on

    Maintain

    Results hold while you keep using it; stopping lets the beard return to how it was. A typical path, not a promise — individual results vary.

    Into the skin, not the hair

    Massage in with fingertips, then wash your hands. Let it dry before anything goes on top.

    Give it time

    Change typically starts from eight to twelve weeks. Stopping lets the beard return to how it was.

Do not use it

  • If you are under 18 or over 65
  • If you are a woman, pregnant, or breastfeeding
  • If the skin under your beard is broken, inflamed, infected or sunburnt
  • If you have heart disease, angina, an irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure or uncontrolled high blood pressure, unless your prescriber has agreed
  • If you are allergic to minoxidil

Precautions

  • Keep away from the eyes, mouth and nose; rinse with cool water if it gets in.
  • Wash your hands after every application.
  • Don't use other minoxidil products at the same time unless your prescriber has agreed.
  • Stop and contact us if you get chest pain, palpitations, faintness or sudden weight gain.

Do I need a prescription?
Yes. The GOAT contains minoxidil 5% and is supplied only after a UK-registered prescriber has reviewed your consultation and photo ID.
Will it fill in a patchy beard?
It's designed to encourage growth in areas that are sparse or slow, and to thicken hairs already there. How much difference it makes varies from person to person; give it at least twelve weeks of twice-daily use before judging. Individual results vary.
Can I use beard oil with it?
Yes. Spray first, into the skin, and let it dry. Oil or balm afterwards, through the hair.
Can women use it?
No. It's for men aged 18 to 65 only.
Is it the same as Gorilla?
Both contain minoxidil, but Gorilla is a stronger scalp tonic that also contains dutasteride. The GOAT is minoxidil only, in a spray formulated for facial skin. Don't swap them without asking your prescriber.
